The Realtek external speakers for my laptop have suddenly stopped working. What can I do?

Have you checked the sound properties via the control panel? Ensure that the speakers are selected as the default device and that the volume is turned up. Otherwise, head to the laptop manufacturer's support site and reinstall the sound card drivers. If none of those options work, I suspect that there may be an issue hardware wise, perhaps excess heat has damaged the motherboard or the speakers have simply blown.
