Someone help trying to up date bios

I have gateway solo 2500 with xp home I'm trying to up date bios but can't seem to get the bios to flash just out of ideas can some help me with the problem.

"If it's not broken, don't fix it".
Really, I've heard a lot of stories about corrupted BIOS flashes that rendered the laptop useless. Unless you have a real reason to flash the BIOS, it is not necessary.
If this procedure is easily applicable by the end-user, there should be a detailed procedure on their website.
