I am an interior architecture student and need a laptop (already have a pretty powerful desktop) for 3d modelling/rendering (Rhino, Revit, 3ds Max, Cad), adobe products, etc. With the help of this forum, I have already narrowed it down to two computers Sager NP5165 and the ASUS K53SV-B1 unless while researching I see something else I like (happens A LOT...). I was also considering a Samsung RC512-S02 that bestbuy is selling but I'm pretty sure Asus and Sager are a lot better computers than Samsung. (correct me if I'm wrong tho!)

I just wanted to know what is you guy's general opinions on each brand? I know there's quite a few experts in here so help? Also is powernotebooks.com a reliable website to buy from? I know xoticpc.com is good, but I like options :) Do you guys have suggestions on where to buy these for cheapest but still a great, reliable website.

Thanks in advance!

The Clevo W150HR is sold by Sager and many other vendors. If you want to compare, a site that I fond useful simply because of the way they list things side by side ....

While the Clevo brand name is perhaps not widely known, their products are re-branded and sold by known boutique brand OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers)… notably Sager, VoodooPC, Falcon Northwest, Eurocom, etc. They are also considered (by whoever knows about notebooks) to design and manufacturer the best of the best...

You'd be surprised how often we see posts saying one brand is better than another when it turns out neither one actually makes a laptop and both buy from the same ODM. Most of the brands you've heard of are actually made by somebody else:

The vast majority of laptops on the market are manufactured by a small handful of Original Design Manufacturers (ODM). Major relationships include:

Quanta sells to (among others) HP/Compaq, Dell, Toshiba, Sony, Fujitsu, Acer, NEC, Gateway and Lenovo/IBM
Compal sells to Toshiba, HP/Compaq, Acer, and Dell.
Positivo Informatica sells to Samsung, Sony, Siragon, Toshiba, HP
Wistron (former manufacturing & design division of Acer) sells to HP/Compaq, Dell, IBM, NEC, Acer, and Lenovo/IBM.
Flextronics (former Arima Computer Corporation notebook division) sells to HP/Compaq, NEC, and Dell.
Itautec sells to Siragon, LG, Samsung, Sony
ECS sells to IBM, Fujitsu, and Dell.
Asus sells to Apple (iBook), Sony, and Samsung.
Inventec sells to HP/Compaq, Toshiba, and BenQ.
Lanix sells to Sony, Compaq, Toshiba, Siragon, Itautec
Uniwill sells to Lenovo/IBM and Fujitsu & PC World UK own brand Advent.
