Hello,
Hello,

I have been looking at two gaming laptops, the main difference is the processors:

dv6t series
•Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
•2nd generation Intel(R) Dual Core(TM) i7-2620M (2.7GHz, 4MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.4 GHz
•1GB GDDR5 Radeon(TM) HD 6770M Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
•8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
•640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
9-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (over-sized) - Up to 9.75 hours of battery life
•15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768)
•SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
•Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN with Wireless Display Support

OR

dv6z
•Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
•AMD Phenom(TM) II Dual-Core Mobile Processor N660 (3.0GHz, 2MB L2 Cache)
•1GB DDR3 ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 6550 switchable graphics [HDMI, VGA]
•8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
•640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
•9 Cell Lithium Ion Battery (over-sized)
•15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Display (1366x768)
•SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
•802.11b/g/n WLAN

There is about a $300 dollar difference. Is the i7 and slightly better graphics card worth it?

Solution
Overall, the Phenom II has a much better price-performance ratio because the Phenom II X4 920, decent AM2+ motherboard, and DDR2-1066 RAM are SO abundant beneath big-ticket than an i7 920, decent LGA1366 board, and DDR3-1066/1333 memory. The i7 920 is certainly faster than an X4 920, but unless you're accomplishing a ton of video apprehension or encoding, it's not that much faster to warrant the extra price, in my opinion.

You didn't bother to read did you? This discussion is not about the desktop processors that you brought up.

In this case, the dv6t with the i7 is better. The 6770 is a faster card and the i7 is better due to a stronger architecture, turbo and hyperthreading.
