Hello,

Recently I was about to purchase the Asus g73jw-a1 back in january. But I held off and got delayed. Now I want to secure something. So is this still the best choice for the casual gamer in the price range? Has anything better than this taken up the position which i should reconsider. please advice

Msi GT680R-008US is a 15" notebook and Alienware M17xR3 / the Asus G73SW are 17".
The MSI GT680R is a better match with the Asus G53SW
Performance-wise they stack up being closely similar. They are all available with i7-2630QM CPU and GTX 460M GPU

In addition to the GTX 460M Alienware M17xR3 has a less powerful Radeon HD 6870M and more powerful Radeon HD 6970M graphics cards available. When configured similar to the Msi GT680R and Asus G73SW the Alienware is out of your budget range.

Msi GT680R has a 1 year warranty. Asus G73SW has a 2yr warranty and a 1yr accidental damage warranty.

Hello winnepooh30;

The Sandy Bridge CPU refresh to the usual crop of gaming choices is new since your looking at the G73JW-A1
ASUS G73SW-A1 is the new top dawg in th ROG line up. Unless you're interested in the 3D version - the ASUS G73SW-3DE.
You'll find other good choices in gaming options at the link.

For that price I'd recommend the Sager 8130 over that.

guess its Asus G73SW then. Next question is where to buy... thanks for the link WR2. Thats a nice option, dont think I can see myself going to bluray discs in future.

Tigerdirect has the bluray option, listed at $1499. Are there any other reputable sites to buy off from keeping the price tags in mind?

I think most of us will be getting our HD video content off the internet vs Blu-Ray discs.
NetFlix Streaming, Hulu, etc.

I'm not impressed with that case/mouse combo at TD. The mouse is OK but that case isn't the same quality as the notebook.
You'd be better off getting the $1400 model @ Amazon then being able to choose your own mouse and case.

Right now, anywhere else besides TD or Amazon would have you paying more

Upon seeing that best buy one I went out and bought it. The resolutions max is quiet a bit smaller 1600x900. But luckily best buy has a 14 day no questions asked return policy.

I thought I responded to this yesterday, sorry. No blue tooth. After a day of use I haven't noticed the skip in keyboard that other people have noticed. I've not written any papers but emails and what not. I type at roughly 60wpm.

The 460m in the machine is only 1 gb.

It's a sturdy machine but I'm now looking at: the Sager NP8170 which looks more professional/less auspicious to me.

I like the keyboard tilt on this but, if I'm in a coffee shop playing sc2 I don't want my laptop to scream Gaming!

The ausus stays very cool.

It runs adobe premier pro/photoshop slick as my desktop. (a dual core amd 3.2 ghz from 4 years ago. with a bottlenecked gtx 570)

I haven't gotten into it's specific functions there are 3 keys up in the top right, I can't figure out what they do. It doesn't have dedicated media player buttons which my old laptop had and I found very useful. I enjoy having a full number pad on the side more than I thought I would.

Those are my basic thoughts.

Though 1600x900 for 1400 after tax, isn't a deal, imo. If you decide on an asus republic machine I'd buy one online.
