Asus X50VL acting weird

Hi, I have an Asus X50VL, which is giving me a really hard time. If I power it on, the laptop leds turn on, but nothing else, it just stays there. If I try turning it on and off some times, it eventually does start up. After that, it randomly freezes, either at post, at bios, or in windows if I manage to log in. There is no overheating. What I have tried is removing one memory module, and it seems to start up quite ok. I even swapped the memory modules, and the memory slots where I put the memory, and it seems to power on. But it used to work well with both modules installed. I don't know if it is just by chance. Any ideas welcome. Thanks
