DELL INSPIRON 6000 SCREEN GOES BLANK

I HAVE REINSTALLED WINDOWS OK
EXTERNAL MONITOR WORKS FINE
LAPTOP SCREEN GOES BLANK AFTER WINDOWS BEGINS TO START UP
HAVE TRIED CRT/ LCD SWITCH NO USE
IF I RUN IT IN SAFE MODE LCD WORKS OK
IF UNINSTALL ATI 300 DRIVER AND USE STANDARD VGA DRIVER LCD WORKS OK
IT WILL EVEN WORK IF I ASK WINDOWS TO USE LAST KNOWN WORKING POSITION
THROUGH ALL THIS THE EXTERNAL MONITOR WORKS

I had tried the refresh rate erlier but it did not work but just as i was about to give up i uninstalled the driver again and reset it to the lowest refresh rate and it worked it has since reset its selfe to a higher reolution but kept the refresh rate at 60 and all is working ok i would like to say thank you for making me look again
