Hi all.

I'm looking to buy a netbook or mini. I would like a 10", but if I need to get to 14" to get the performance I want I will consider it.

This would mostly be used for web surfing, but I would also like to be able to play some decent games. How are 10" netbooks at running fairly intense graphical games? Do I need to step up to a 14-15" laptop for that stuff?

I would also like to have...

2 GB ram
160+ GB HD
Decent processor / bus speed
1+ mp camera
Wireless N
Multi gesture pad
Price range around $400

Thanks!

After looking a little bit... looks like I'll need a 13" with deicated video.

This seems like a good one... cept for the 0.3 MP webcam...bah.

I second that laptop, strong GPU (better than nVidia 310m) and a good processor.

Hi there,

A netbook will definitely not be able to handle gaming. The laptop you suggested looks like a pretty solid choice. It's not a power gaming laptop, but should be able to handle most games (but maybe not on max settings). It's a great value for that price. Most gaming laptops tend to run over $1000. I suggest you compare the system requirements of the games you want to play to the laptop to be sure the two are compatible.

Cheers,

Thanks. I was hoping for a 1.3 mp webcam for video chats with my wife and son while I'm on an off shift. 0.3 MP seems way too low. Is it?

I just ordered it today from J&R. I got it for $759.99 ($10 more than Newegg, but Newegg is out of stock) + free shipping. Should be here early next week.

What RAM would you recommend? Any DDR3 204 pin work ok? Or do I have to match it up with what is in there already?

Thanks.

That laptop will have 2 ram slots and both will be populated, so in order to get more RAM you woul need to buy two 4GB sticks and remove the two 2GB sticks. You wont see much difference moving from 4GB to 8GB, other than a hole in your pocket. But if you want to replace the RAM any DDR3-1066 (maybe even DDR3-1333) SODIMM should work
