Which should I get? I'm looking for something to game on, but also use in class (college student). I'm thinking about getting a dell xps studio 16 with one of two different set ups or a desktop and a netbook.
1st XPS Studio 16:
Processor: Intel T9600
Hard Drive: 128GB SSD
Graphics Card: ATI mobility radeon 565v
Memory: 5GB at 1067MHz
Price: $1349 - After Discount $1,798 - Before Discount.

2nd XPS Studio 16:
Processor: Core i7-720QM
Hard Drive: 500GB at 7200rpm
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon 5730
Memory:4GB at 1333MHz
Price: $1,335

Or

Your Suggestion?

So, $1300 laptop with slight gaming potential (I'd probably only play cod Black Ops) or a $900 gaming desktop and a $400 netbook?

Solution
well between the two laptops i say the second one.
i have a t9600 it does good for gaming but i enjoy a quad core alot more.
ssd only means that you load stuff faster doesnt make much for gaming. and the 5730 > then the 5650.

but the question i would say is are you gonna be carrying your laptop with you to class? i mean i sold my desktop to get a laptop that does everything and i miss my desktop cause i can do more stuff with it. and i have a few friends who live in dorms and they carry their desktop there. Now the problem at least with me when i take my laptop i get bored and distracted and play a random game on my laptop instead of listening to the teacher.

I'd love to buy laptop because it is portable, you can carry to collage, library or what ever you want. If you are a gamer, XPS/alienware/Asus ROG is the best choice.

Thanks. I probably wouldn't move it much at all, which is why I have been considering getting a desktop and a netbook. What all can a desktop do that a laptop can't?

Well for me a desktop can be upgraded easily.
I have an MSI laptop and im stuck with the video card 9600m gt, dont get me wrong its good i can play all the new games in medium if not in lowest possible settings of couse thats with the gx720. I use to have a gx620 the smaller version and upgrade the mxm video to a 4850 but sold it and hoped it worked for my gx720. Gx720 doesnt like the 4850 and only can be used thru an external monitor still dont know why. The mxm video cards are expensive the 9600m gt go for $150 on ebay forums for the 4850 use to go for $400 but alienware ppl can get it for $200. now it goes for $300 at most. Cpu some comps will only go to dual core depends on motherboard gx620 only upgarded to a x9100 whith is a 3.06ghz dual core. my gx720 can go to a qx9300 2.53ghz quad core.

with desktops i enjoy a little overclocking and i like to have fans in to keep it cool. Easier to upgrade a desktop. Motherboard that can get a i5 and later be upgraded to an i7. Have more than 1 video card and more than 1 hard drive. So ssd with 40gb for the os and some programs like office and maybe a game or so. 1tb for videos and music and the rest of the programs. Bigger Screen i prefer 19inch over 17inch. Keyboard for gaming gotta get use to on a laptop. alot cheaper to upgrade.

IMO im thinking about selling my laptop and everything with it. here are the few things i was gonna get. I was gonna spend about $600 on an amd quad core, 4gb of ram 250gb hdd, 500-600w psu, and probably a 4890 video card. and i was thinking about getting http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-u35jca1-p-2828.html for about $800 as a laptop. of course you can make the above cheaper by getting an i5 i think not sure about the price and change a video card that can play games at high right now.
