Hey guys, I really find this website generally helpful, but now I need help about 2 specific models. So basically I use the laptop quite a lot, be it university, some photoshop and gaming too (although i normally game on the xbox 360 - games which I play on the laptop are games like Medieval 2 Total War, flight simulator X and company of heroes) . I have come down to these 2 models:

Sony VAIO VPCEB2S1E 15.5"

OR

DELL Inspiron 15R

SKU NBO-L90213
Processor Type Intel® Core™ i5-460M
CPU Speed 2.53 GHz
Memory 4 GB
Memory Type DDR 3
Maximum Memory 8 GB
Hard Drive 500 GB
Disk Technology SATA
Screen Size 15.6"
Dedicated Graphics Memory 1 GB
Max Resolution 1366x768, HD WLED Glossy Display with TrueLifeTM
Graphics Chipset ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
Optical Drive DVD Super-Multi Drive
Card Reader Yes
Webcam Yes
Biometric Fingerprint Reader No
Wi-Fi connectivity Yes
Bluetooth Yes
Operating System Windows 7 Home Premium
Color Black
Dimensions / Weight (W x H x D) 376.0mm x 31.8mm (Min H.) to 34.0mm (Max H.) x 262.0mm / 2.65kg

Now as you can see the main difference is that the VAIO has better video card (ATI HD5650) but the DELL has a better CPU (Core i5-460M).

They are both priced EXACTLY the same from this particular outlet ... so in your opinion, which one would perform generally better for my needs??

Well the Dell clearly has the better display and the faster cpu.

It all comes down to whether you want a faster cpu or faster gpu.

Neither are going to be very great for gaming.

What about upgrading the Dell's video to at least a 5670?

Well I am not purchasing it just for gaming ... as I said i usually game on the xbox 360 ... i only play some strategy games on the laptop.

any other inputs on this?
