I've had my Dell Inspiron 1520 for a little over 2 years now and I've never had a problem with it until now. When I try and turn it on it goes through the usual Dell screen and then the Windows XP screen but then it asks me if I want to turn it on in normal mode or safe mode (no matter which one I choose it goes to the exact same screen) after that it goes to a blue screen and says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer" Then it goes on to say restart computer and see if it happens again. I've restarted it about 5 times and I get the same thing. At the bottom of the screen it says Technical information:
***STOP: 0x00000024 (0x00190203,0x86F70830,0xC0000102,0x00000000)
Once it gets to the blue screen I can't do ANYTHING.

My laptop isn't under warranty anymore so I don't know what to do.

See if you can boot to the comand prompt. "Safe mode comand prompt"
At the prompt type, chkdsk / r
If that doesn't work.
Follow the advice below, hope you have an installation disk:

That should fix any drive errors which could be the problem.

Same thing happened to mine. Dell is screwing us. I have had blue screens since the week I got mine. The hard drive is fried now. Everytime I called they would just have me reset the system and I would lose all my files, so I stopped calling.
Real defects in these hard drives!
