I am trying to install Windows XP on my Acer 9810 lap top. However it is saying windows cannot find hard drive. If I plug in a USB hard drive or a USB dongle windows will find that and try to install.

When I go to the BOIS the hard drive is listed as a PCI SCSI........IDE0 and IDE1 is blank. It does not give me the option to change it to SATA as the hard drive is a SATA hard drive.

More about : urgently

Have you downloaded any drivers for the drive in question when I attempted to install XP a while ago on a sata drive it was a pig of a thing to do.

I was told that I had to go to drives website and download the drivers so windows setup would recognise the drive and press F6 during setup when it asked if you wanted to install 3rd party drivers or somthing similar to install them if I can remember right :??:

I did find some info in the Microsoft support section

Go to the Acer website support /downloads after you plug in your model number switch the view to windows xp and select the SATA driver. You will need to press F6 during the start of the windows xp install to load the driver.
