I am considering this laptop here

It has everything I'm looking for at a great price.

* AMD TurionTM II Ultra dual-core mobile processor M620 2.5GHz
* 17.3" LED high-definition plus widescreen display with BrightView technology
* 4GB DDR2 Memory / 500GB Hard Drive / Blu-ray Disc / DVD±RW/CD-RW drive
* ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 graphics up to 2046MB total graphics memory / Built-in webcam with digital microphone / HDMI Port
* Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit / 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN / HP Mobile remote

The only thing I am concerned about is the AMD processor. I've always heard that Intel is the best? I only need it for internet, email, word docs, and some light photo / video editing. Is AMD Turion II a fast processor?

Please share your opinions.

It'll handle simple web browsing, email, and word no problem. I'm not sure what you define as light photo/video editing, but as long as you're not doing it for a living, it should be suitable (but probably slow, at least for video editing). Overall, seeing how it comes with Blu Ray, i think it's a decent laptop.

There is little reason to buy an older AMD cpu that uses DDR2. The new ones have been tweaked up nicely, lower wattage and heat plus better performance. The easy way to tell the old AMD cpus from the new is the old ones use DDR2 and the new ones use DDR3.

The i3 and i5s are still better overall but tend to be more expensive also.
