It depends on the model,but usually Core i3 CPUs are faster than C2D ones

The i3 will probably be better for these purposes. Both processors have two cores, but the i3 is faster because it has hyperthreading.

It is also important to pay attention to the processor speed in determining which laptop to buy. Are there any particular laptops you are looking into?
