I'm considering picking up an alienware m11x, but I'm not keen on the 800mhz ram, which is the only speed offered on line. does anyone know if the machine can handle faster ram? if so, I'll just end up getting it with 1 gig and the purchase 4 or 8 gigs from g.skill.

That's only if the motherboard can't handle the faster speed. Unfortunately, Intel's website doesnt provide a whole lot of info on the QS57 chipset so I can't really say one way or another whether it will support faster RAM.

Dell says it's 1333 Mhz DDR3 but they put in 800 Mhz ram.

But who is willing to pay about 500 bucks for 2GB->8 GB upgrade when ordering a M11X ? Thats ridiculous, and usually it's not a prob to put faster ram into the laptop, becaue there are mostly timings on the SPD chip for the slower clocks as well, also Dell wants 76 bucks for ordering "replacement" sodimm.
