Solved! Black screen on start up on IBM thinkpad iseries

just got a 2621 42u iseries and when i turned it on the screen stayed black. any ideas?

That's a very old laptop, according to the specs it has a PII CPU. It could be any one of 30 things. Do you have it plugged into the wall charger? Any lights come on the keyboard? Do the fans spin at all? If the laptop is just not totally dead, you may just have a drained battery if you did not plug it in.

If it's plugged in and you get nothing, throw it out, any money you spend trying to fix it is much better saved for a new laptop.
