I've been having trouble setting up audio from my computer to home theater system. I have a M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 motherboard and the home theater system is a coby csp96. I'm confused how I should connect it. Also if it makes it better for it to go through my tv idk if that would give more options. link to it below.

how did you tried to connect it?
via Digital Cable or via simple 3.5mm jack?
you sure can try the bouth of them.

what you need is a digital audio cable, like this for example
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-6Ft-Optical-Fiber-Optic-Toslink-Digital-Audio-Cable-/310406006415?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item4845a3c68f

or by connecting it with a 3.5mm jacks you need this cable:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-FT-3-5mm-Aux-Male-to-2-RCA-Male-Stereo-Audio-Sound-AV-Cable-White-for-TV-VCR-/170908897338?pt=US_Audio_Cables_Adapters&hash=item27caf6d03a

you can connect a surround system with both options i guess, but with the 3.5mm jack you will need 3 cables (depends on your system) to connect 5.1 surround system. :)

or you have all this stuff and you have another issues?

First, you load any drivers or software with the antivirus and firewall turned off.
See below...*

** If your audio still does not work, after try everything, you might have a bad motherboard. I have seen EVO with audio problems before.

The outputs of the motherboard are 3.5 MM (3 conductor stereo)
The inputs of the coby are RCA mono plugs
You just need adapters, that can be bought ready made.
The adapter splits the 3.5 MM stereo motherboard connector to left and right RCA plugs...
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=216446&is=REG&Q=&A=details

You then use regular RCA patch cords. Expensive overpriced patch cords are not necessary.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/547054-REG/Pearstone_ARSC_325_Gold_Series_2_RCA.html

You set the configuration of the audio - using the audio software, you must set
the speaker configuration, adjust the mixer levels, etc...
you download dolby drivers from the dolby website.

Download the entire motherboard manual, from the manufacturer website. This shows all the connections and controls.

So you see, one single stereo 3.5 MM output is left and right,
that must be split into two separate RCA plugs.

You see, in order to get surround sound, you need encoded media to play...
The DVD, CD needs to be surround dolby encoded, and will say so, on the disk.

If you are not getting all speakers to work:
You do not have dolby surround encoded media?
You have not set the configuration correctly, using the audio software?

* Double click the speaker icon in the lower right hand of the desktop, this will bring up the mixer, or single click to bring up the volume control. Laptops: see below, third paragraph.
Check the setting of the mixer or volume control.
But in case the volume is missing, corrupted, or the audio is otherwise non-functional:
you check whichever audio was installed:
click start, click control panel, click add remove programs, look at the list...
which audio software is shown on the list? delete it, restart the computer.

now visit the motherboard manufacturer or computer manufacturer's website
look up your computer drivers by model number
download the latest audio drivers, save on the desktop...
turn the antivirus off,
if you have multiple security programs installed, turn them all off
(your driver may not install if security systems are turned on)
now load your new audio driver, restart, turn the antivirus back on.

Laptops: Your volume controls may be built into the keyboard. (varies according to make and model number)
OR: your volume control may be a knob, located near the headphone jack.
Download the entire manual for your computer model from the manufacturer's website.
The manual will show you where all the keyboard audio or wireless ethernet controls are located.
But besides the manufacturer keyboard controls, you will still have software controls, as above. (first paragraph)
So if "either one of these volume controls is turned to "zero" you will have no sound. If the Mixer is turned to zero, or muted, you will have no sound.
Hmmm, better check that.

Your Coby only has analog 5.1 inputs so you cannot go to you TV first as it will probably have only optical digital audio out. You need to use 3 cables that have stereo mini plugs on the PC end and a pair of RCA outs on the Coby end. Your soundcard needs to have the 5.1 channel outputs on it. The fronts are on one pair, rears on another pair, and center and sub on the third pair.

To try to answer everything heres what i figured out. On the back of the home theater there is 2 areas one is tv and the other is dvd. the tv only has 2 inputs. The DVD section has all(sub, center, all front and back speakers).
-- There is a switch on there that goes between DVD and TV. I got it to work by pluging the tv section into the lime input that is labeled for audio outputs. That works fine but I don't think that is true surround sound if its only using 1 wire. But this means my audio on the motherboard is working.
--Then when I turn it to dvd mode and connect the center and sub to the orange input that is ment for those speakers the computer doesn't recognize any of it(I have tried the other inputs as well with the RCA to 3.5 adapter). When I click on the sound playback options all it show are
--my USB speakers which I used before,
--the 3-high definition audio device speakers( which is what the speakers should be using) it is saying not plugged in,
--then there is headphone and there are 2 separate digital audio s/PDIF speakers
I think because it is the DVD section it won't work for the computer but the tv section works for the computer so I don't see why the dvd section won't work

I can't use the spdif because both my tv or home theater don't have a port for that.
