hi :)
i have the kind of headphones with splitted plugs (1 mic, 1 audio).
the thing is i dont have much space to waste on my workdesk so i need to combine the mic+audio 3.5mm plugs into 1
is buying this:

or this:

gonna do the trick?
im pretty sure my laptop supports 3-ring 3.5mm plugs, coz i have used my phone headset once and the mic worked (i think?)
how can i know if my laptop supports it? how can i know if the merger would work?

love these forums and this site, always helped me and ive found what i was looking for!

i do know that the standard 2 ring 3.5mm plug carries just 2.0 audio. it makes sense to me that the 3 ring plug would work with your mic. you confirmed that this is the setup of your other headset.

as for if it will work with your pc or not....you could read through the specs and try and decipher some information but the easiest way is as you said...plug your phone headset in and test both left and right channels and the microphone (windows sound recorder will work).

if everything works then i dont see why a Y which combines the signals together would not work. instead of being an internal connection (like your phone headset) it would be an external one. the wiring should be the same.

in any case... the part should be rather cheap.
