"In every other case, from cutting-edge DirectX 11 titles like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat and Dirt 2, to demanding DX10 titles like Far Cry 2, the GeForce GTX 480M was on the order of 30% faster on average, with much larger gains shown in Far Cry 2, where the chip was up to 60% faster than its counterpart from AMD. All of this performance, however, does come at a cost of power consumption, heat and a bit of noise; which also was expected of course. The GeForce GTX 480M's thermal footprint (100W TDP) is also 2X that of the Mobility Radeon HD 5870."

The one thing that I would argue is a point that Notebook Check made. ATI does not measure the TDP of the entire board (memory and GPU), they only measure the GPU. So in saying that it's 2x the consumption of the 5870 is a bit of a lie.

Beware, the TDP values of ATI cards usually does not include the whole MXM board, but the chip itself only. Therefore, the power consumption is not easily compareable.

You mean higher consumption? Yes. Just saying it's probably more like 100 watts compared to 70 or so. Not quite the 2x they were saying.

Haha, no. But people buying these laptops should know that going into it. You can't possibly buy a gaming laptop expecting it to have good battery life.

Yup,but some of them have pretty good battery life like MSI GX640 which can hold up to 3-4hrs for normal usage.(which is quite good considering its specs),but i think the battery life with GTX 480M inside would be 1hr or less
