If you want to do justice to dubstep, you will want a subwoofer, and if you want a subwoofer that doesn't suck, I would recommend saving up at least 150 to 200 for the subwoofer alone. Active speakers with good bass sans subwoofer pretty much start at 400, you would want studio monitors with 8" woofers- something like this:

You can buy desktop speakers with subs, but the bass is always sloppy and muddy, and the speakers are so dinky they will leave a frequency response gap right in the middle of an important range for any kind of bass music like dubstep.

I think they are about as good as you can expect on your tight budget. Personally I would try looking on craigslist first and seeing if you can get a cheap used receiver and some used bookshelf speakers first, a decent pair of bookshelf speakers will sound much better. They will take a lot more room though. If you are not critical about sound quality the Logitechs will work though.

I don't think there is any difference between good dubstep speakers or good gaming speakers. Either speakers have good performance metrics or they don't- application makes no difference here.

There is most definately a difference between gaming and dubstep. Gaming comes nowhere close to the lower frequencies used in dubstep. Consider the fact that dubstep is literally the manipulation of bass. I'd strongly suggest, the larger surface area the sub has, the better... you will generally reach lower frequencies... if you really want to know what I'd suggest, two book shelves, a sub, and a receiver... you can get a decent setup off craigs for probably, idk, $200-250... if you want something you can keep for the long haul, that would be the best setup for what you mentioned, if you can save...

I think that may have been true once upon a time, but I have noticed many games start using some serious bass in the past few years. Bioshock, Rage, Blur, to name just a few. Plus their bass is quite cinematic, which is much deeper bass than what dubstep is mostly using. I suppose if one had to choose a system strength, for dupstep you would want big output from 40 hz and above, and for games and movies, you would want to go for deeper bass extension at the expense of output if need be, down to 20 hz if possible. Of course, it's best to just get a system capable of both big output and deep bass, but that is expensive for most folks, both in money and floorspace.

I disagree, but first I will state that dubstep will use lower frequencies much more often, and stress your sub a lot more.

Let's talk facts: http://www.dubstepforum.com/how-low-do-dubstep-frequencies-go-t75271.html

They discuss how 20hz is common in Dubstep and electronic music... I'm not sure you could say it's "common" in gaming. I can't find much on the lowest common frequencies used in gaming, but I can't imagine they would go any lower than dubstep and electronic music, much less use it anywhere near as often. Sure, your explosions here and there, but I doubt the lower frequencies, however low they go, would get as much appreciation from a larger sub.

Could probably find the Klipschs from 250-300, and the polk maybe 150-200... but for many people's "computer speakers" budget, it's a lil over the top :p Polk makes a good, low cost PSW10... could pick on up for as low as $60 I've seen :) Looks sharp too :p

Thanks for all of the help, I really do not have the money to afford a powerful dedicated subwoofer, and this is going in my apartment so I can not have an extremely powerful subwoofer, what do you think about these three speakers, which one is better, and if you have a recommendation for an even better set of speakers for around the same price range that would be awesome.

Get these: http://www.klipsch.com/promedia-2-1-computer-speakers
Probably not going to find a better price (as weird as that sounds)
If you don't want these (they sound a **** ton better than the logitechs), I can recommend others, but none near as good as these, trust me.

Awesome, and they will plug into my computer via an AUX cable? The green input right?

Yep... it uses a 3.5mm standard aux cable for input... could be plugged into your computer's stereo speaker output (green), mp3 player, phone, etc... :) If you get them, let me know what you think :D
