There are known issues with DVD players and Windows -- see Micrsoft's site for a fix.


Otherwise, it's may be a driver issue with the disk controller on the motherboard. If you are relying on Windows drivers, you should also see whether Gateway's site offers drivers for your motherboard and Win7.

thanx for replying. but pls i'm a noob , can you gimme a link to Gateway site so that i can download the essential drivers for my Gateway m-6862.

Thanx. but pls one more question. now that my DVD rom is unable to read all kinds of DVDs, how do i re-install my previous windows Vista?

Is the DVD drive recognised by the BIOS ? If so, you can switch the boot order in the BIOS so that the computer will start from a Vista install disk.

If, not you have to use an external USB CD/DVD drive, assuming that USB is supported by the BIOS.
