I'm looking to buy a surround system with wireless rear speakers for my TV. Most of the bundles come with a blu-ray player, but I already have one.

What are some recommendations? Will the sound quality of the rears be good since they are wireless? Should I get a passive subwoofer, or a regular one?

There is no such thing as a "regular" subwoofer. A Passive one just means that it gets it's power from the receiver instead of a built-in amp. Neither one of those is "regular".

Wireless transmission pretty much means worse sound.

Need a price range. You can get really pricy with speakers.

I'm not looking for movie theater quality sound. Just something so the sound will be closer to me ears really. Surround sound would be cool too. I think $400 tops is what I'm looking for. As long as the wireless won't be "crackly" like a bad radio station then I'll be fine.

i have to agree with hang-the-9 : if wireless audio is reliable/comparable to traditional wired home audio, we would all move on to that @@

In a surround sound system the rear speakers generally only play special effects so having them closer to you will not make things sound clearer to you. I would suggest that you get a good pair of stereo speakers and a surround receiver. Hook up the Bluray and TV to it and set it to stereo. Place the speakers close to you to give you more clarity. You can always add the additional speakers later if you want them.
Also the center speaker which will produce the dialogue will add clarity so you can also set up a 3 channel system (sub woofer would make it 3.1)

Those are some great deals. Thanks, I'll think about it. The speakers are a bit larger than I was thinking about though.
