Hello,
Hi have a Asus x61 laptop, with a C2D 2.1Ghz, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb HDD, and my dvd rom is TSSTCorp DvdRW.

I have Windows 7 x64 installed the laptop, which is a fresh install. im trying to copy files from DVD and the copying speed is 1MB/sec, this is highly annoying as 2Gb file is taking an hour to copy.

Any ideas y this is like this..

i have 3 ATA channels
and one is DMA 6, the other is DMA 5 and the other does not have anything.

Solution
Check the DVD settings from control panel to see if the features like "CD/DVD Acoustic Silencer" or something like that is turned off; since they throttle performance when turned on. Also check your power settings to see what settings you hae applied for the optical drive when running on battery or plugged-in, etc.
