Dell inspiron 8000 battery only works in #1

Hello, I just purchased a used Dell Inspiron 8000. It came with a floppy drive in the #1 media bay and the battery in the #2 media bay. It works well on AC power but it shuts off as soon as I unplug the AC adapter from the laptop even though the battery meter shows 37%. I pulled the floppy drive from media bay #1 and replaced it with the battery from bay #2. In this bay the battery is charging properly and the laptop will run on the battery without the AD power plugged in. Is it a battery, software, hardware problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

It is most likely an issue with the media bay. Does the floppy drive work alright with the other media bay?
