Is optical audio any good?

Well I'm connecting a sound bar to my TV and I was wondering what the best audio choice would be. The sound bar can use HDMI, Optical Audio, or the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, and my TV can use all three. I am currently using HDMI (I have my DVR ran into the sound bar via HDMI then HDMI from the sound bar to the TV) which sucks because I only get audio with the sound bar from my DVR, and I would like to get it from game consoles and blu-ray also. I was wondering if the optical audio or the standard headphone jack would provide a better sound quality.

No to the headphone jack. Optical and HDMI are identical except optical rejects EMI better.
