Hey everyone, first time poster to Audio, long time poster to Computer hardware.

I am setting up my home theater and need some advice on speakers.

My setup:

TV: Optoma HD33 1080p Projector on 100" professional fixed screen http://amzn.to/HvhBIJ http://bit.ly/HoHHHX
Receiver: Denon AVR-1612 600w 5.1 http://amzn.to/H55HlS
BD Player: Sony PS3 http://amzn.to/HzyIau
Xbox 360, Wii, HTPC

For speakers I would like to stay between $500-999 for my 5.1 system. I want to avoid a few companies: Bose, Sony, and anything subpar.

I've found some that look decent:
Two sets of 5.0 speakers:
Boston Acoustics Classic II http://amzn.to/HrmiTr
Polk RM95 http://amzn.to/H3UqD5

Two Subwoofers:
Boston Acoustics Classic II Sub http://amzn.to/H3Pb96
Polk PSW505 http://amzn.to/HvjSUl

Thoughts? Thanks

Hello,

Boston Acoustics is a fine speaker with a nice flat frequency response. It should perform well for you.

I do not know about the performance of their sub woofers. What are your room dimensions?

Mike

i personally recommend klipsch.

for a small to medium sized room the klipsch quintet + 450w sub is within your budget. they are satelite speakers and can be wall mounted. they work fine in my 15x13 tv room and have a little headroom for playing in a larger area. the floorstanding speakers or bookshelf speakers are nice as well but are probably out of your budget.

the build quality in the speakers is very nice compared with what i've seen from boston acoustics, sony, bose, and other "in a box" brands. go to your local best buy and listen to them in the HT room!

My problem wish Klipsch is that I only like their high-end speakers, which I can afford. I'm not a huge fan of their entry/computer level speakers. If I could find some of their Synergy or HT series on sale, I'd prob get those.

I may get the floorstand BA speakers with the same satellites.

which is why i did not recommend their pc speaker system called the "promedia" or the "home theater in a box" solution from klipsch.

the quintet IV (probably now up to V) is lowest end of what i consider their good lineup. it is not a computer speaker set.

but do what you wish... it was only a suggestion.
