Pay for basic cable, get free HD & more on one TV but not the other

I pay for basic cable, which is like 20 standard definition channels. There's no box, it just comes from the cable in the wall. We recently hooked up our first two HDTVs in the house. The Sylvania is about 6 years old and only receives the 20 standard def channels. The Panasonic is brand new and receives not only the 20 channels in standard def, but it gets the same channels in HD. It also gets all the other HD standard cable channels that we do not pay for (USA, E!, CNN, Bravo, Discovery, etc).

Can anyone suggest a way to get the older Sylvania TV to receive the rest of the HD/better-than-basic channels also?? Is there some sort of converter box I can buy?

Your Sylvania set doesn't have a QAM (Cable) tuner. You can purchase an outboard QAM tuner. They're not cheap. Depending on the size, and use of the TV, I would have a very hard time justifying that kind of money on a set of that age.
