Solved! How to use visio tv as monitor for dell pc

I don't want to use my Visio tv for games just for normal viewing of my Dell laptop visual and I am not sensitive about resolution, but I used the 15 pin hook up to connect and the tv says, "no signal"; what am I doing wrong? I'm not good with this sort of thing.

you probably need to hit FN and then find the Function key (EG. F1, F2, etc.) that looks like a little monitor on it to make it out put to your external video port. (on my laptop it is either F7 or F2 I haven't played with that yet but its one of those two for me)
