Hello,
My limited knowledge of 3D TV tells me that it's basically 2 images overlaid and the glasses refresh at the rate of one image, and the other lens at the rate of the other image thus making your mind thing there is only one image you can see from multiple angles, or '3d'.

Is it possible to have multiple images overlaid and then change the refresh rate of a monitor / screen to view them on their own?

yes.

take a look at the television sony promotes for the ps3. person A with glasses tuned to refresh rate A sees image A. person B with glasses tuned to refresh rate B sees image B. person c without glasses sees everything which looks rather strange!

if you want to get technical... if you had a 120hz display with a 120hz input you could display...

1 person, 120hz/120fps each
2 people, 60hz/60fps each
3 people, 40hz/40fps each
4 people, 30hz/30fps each
etcetera.

each person would have to have glasses tuned to the exact timing of their image. ie if you had four viewers then each frame of the 120hz/120fps would go something like A,B,C,D,A,B,C,D....

so yes, it is possible, but not the most practical.
