i am using a 16v 4.5amp adapter with a laptop that only needs 16v 3.5amps. is that ok to continue doing, or will itt harm it in the long run? thanks

You should only use the power adapter that your laptop manufacturer recommends.

It seems fine though, since it's supplying the same voltage. The higher current (4.5A vs 3.5A) means it may charge your battery a little faster.. but I still recommend that you get one from the manufacturer (if you think your laptop is worth spending extra on buying it).

Well.. I can't guarantee it's safe, but it doesn't look all too harmful.

EDIT: I think the higher current flow might shorten the life of your laptop battery, actually. It'll keep overcharging it a bit.
