I own an Acer 8940G and I just purchased a LaCie d2 quadra 1TB external eSATA drive. I am having a problem booting Windows 7 (x64) from the LaCie to my Acer 8940g. Installing Windows 7 tells me: Windows can not be installed to this disk. This computer hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu. The BIOS is the latest rev (v1.3114) and I see no other option settings except for: SATA Mode AHCI / IDE (it is set to AHCI). Any ideas?
Thanks

I did not think that the machine could distinguish. I thought it was seen simply as a SATA drive into a SATA port. I am told that there is room and connection for a second internal drive. Can I boot from this?

I agree with buwish

I would like to ask YOU a question about the bios 3114 for the 8940g:

Is it possible to control/disable speedstep in bios 3114?

I am unable to find anything that looks or sounds like speedstep in bios 3114.

You CAN put a second 2.5" sata drive into the laptop and boot from that (press F12 for boot menu)

( i use the first for win7 taht came with it and the second (installed) for vista64 )

However there's NO option to boot from an external harddrive connected to the onboard e-sata port. Maybe a future bios update will make this possible.

Currently i'm looking for a expresscard e-sata controller to achieve this... interest goes to the dawicontrol dc-300
