Solved! Certain keys not working on compaq CQ50 keyboard

Hello:
After my Compaq CQ50 laptop (Vista home version) shut off due to low battery and upon restart the 8 i k , keys now don't function. I installed a new keyboard and still the 8 i k , keys don't work. I hooked up my desktop's keyboard thru a USB and the keys worked. From what i can tell the kb driver is the latest version.
is this a bios issue or a keyboard ribbon connector issue? any other ideas?

My guess it is either the connector on the Mobo or the mobo itself. I don't think BIOS would have anything to do with it, nor the ribbon connector since you have tried two different keyboards.
