I am planning to buy a Logitech X-540, I hav a 6 channel sound card but I really wanna make the tru 5.1 surround work with my DVD player or TV too, the DVD player says it supports 5.1 output and at the back it has red and white 'FL' ,'FR' etc.

How am I gonna connect the speakers to said DVD player? wat adapter is needed? If I really can't, is Matrix really as good as real 5.1?

Solution
You need a DVD player with 6 channel analog output, or speakers with digital decoding. If you have neither you won't get 5.1 surround. The X-540s can't decode digital signals and it sounds like your DVD player can't either.
