I'm looking around to get a laptop to bring to college next semester and I wanted to get something powerful enough that could replace my current desktop (Quad Core 2.5GHz) since its too much of a hassle bringing it around. I looked at the Dell Studio XPS 16 and thought it fit the bill nicely, but I wanted to make sure.

The configuration I'm looking at is:

Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Quad Core Processor 1.6GHz (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
Full HD Widescreen 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP (I've heard a LOT of nice things about this)
6GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
256GB Solid State Drive (this is the thing that concerns me, as I don't know how reliable SSD are)
ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 – 1GB

Price: $2,144

I'm well aware of the following:

1. The battery life sucks
2. Can get quite hot (although if I get the SSD, this shouldn't be too much of a problem)

I'm not going to order one of these until about June, so I imagine the price of this would go down. Is this configuration worth the hype and price? I'm not too familiar on how powerful Core i7-720 is compared to Core 2 Duo or Quad Core.

Thanks for all the help.
