I found this computer on sale for approximately $550 at my local Office Depot, and wasn't sure if it'd suit my needs, or if it was of a good value.

2-3 years

11_What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
DVD suits me at the moment, I find bluray too expensive currently to be worth the price, especially when I can transfer data just as easily with data disks and portable hard-drives

I don't have any brand preferences

I may have the perfect laptop for you, but it doesn't have a 16". Screen resolution is 1366 x 768 though.

I give you... the VAIO CW series! Price starts at $909, but add a little and you get a relatively powerful Nvidia GT 310M. More available here.
