I'm looking to buy another monitor/TV to toss onto my desk that would server as a dual purpose monitor and TV. I have a 19" asus as my PC monitor and an radeon xfx 5750 with oodles of connections to support it. The new monitor will not be used for gaming but rather watching movies/TV.

The LCD monitor/TV will be connected to my dish network satellite receiver as well as my PC. The couch is set across the room on its shorter side, so a mere 23-27" will suffice. I'd like to have at least 1 HDMI, but it brings up the question of whether the DVI-HDMI conversion skimps a bit on image quality? I haven't managed to narrow the candidates down considerably and have just too damn many to choose from. The reviews and info on using these monitors as both a TV and a PC monitor are not too detailed and scarce so I've come here hoping for a bit of advice.

For those of you using an LCD monitor for TV/PC display:

Which one? How has it been as a dual purpose display? Should I strictly look for a 2 HDMI display or will converting an DVI suffice?

Anyone have experience with the xfx 5750 and HDMI cables? Should I go DVI to the monitor instead?

If you have a TV tuner: how well does it pick up the signals and is it easily programmable?

Some monitors are notorious for having poor HDMI connected quality and finding out which ones has been an absolute nightmare.

It seems to me that buying a monitor will have better image quality over an advertised LCD-TV and provides me with a bit more flexibility, particularly considering the size that I'm looking for. Unfortunately it's also caused somewhat of a headache in terms of research. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what your budget is, but here are a couple suggestions...

To convert from DVI to HDMI, use this cable. I have it and use it everyday. Good quality and it works.

Not sure what you need for audio though...are you setting up some sort of receiver setup? If so this would be perfect. You could use 2 inputs on your receiver for the computer and the dish box and one monitor out to the lcd. Would clear up audio issues.

bring it back to the store you brought it from if you dont like it.. just make sure the store has a return policy.

dvi to hdmi conversion depends on the quality of the convertors.
the convertor on the graphics card might be good and the television's convertor might be junk.

you have to try it yourself since you said you are using a graphics card.
one graphics card might be different than another.

I've been thinking about it, but won't do it immediately and will be down the line when I need it. I don't do the ps3 xbox thing so 2 HDMIs are enough. I have 2.1 sound system that's been collecting dust that I can use.

I've been looking more closely at LG and I've been coming to that same conclusion. Thinking about nabbing a 24" asus or either of those 2 LGs
