Pc to tv resolution problem

Hello, I am having a problem connecting my pc to my tv, TV is a Sony 60 inch HDTV, i have bought a couple connections incuding vga to s video, and vga to hdtv cables. when i turn on the tv to the correct input the resolution on the tv is terrible, it shows three different screens on the tv and its very disfirgured. I have also changed the resolution on my pc to all possible resolutions and it still wont work, any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

You've connected VGA output to a VGA input on the TV?
Video from computer should be set to Tv's max resolution @ 60hz.
Check the Tv's set up menu for any special pc settings.
Whats the sony model number? which computer/video card do you have?
