My samsung doesnt show that an HDMI cable is plugged in :S plz help

Hello, i have a samsung hdtv (32 in.) when i plug the hdmi cable from my receiver to the tv i get nothing, and when i press the hdmi button on my tv remote control it displays (theres no devices connected ) plzzzzzzzzzzz i need help as soon as possible thank you

First, make sure the receiver is turned on (i know its a "duh" moment, but you never know.)
Second, thest the HDMI cable in a different socket/plug. If that does not work, the cheapest thing to check, would be the cable itself. Go get an HDMI cable (really cheap online) and see if the new one works. If it does, the old cable is a bad cable.
