Why does my digital cable box not respond

why when i try to rewind, or ff, or ck the cable tv guide does my digital cable box not respond when i push the buttons. If i hit rewind it will not rewind for a total of maybe 10 sec. then once it starts it might go as far back as half way thru the program we are watching after i hit the stop button. If i turn the power off it sometimes waits to respond. I have changed batteries that did not help. Is it the box or the cable company. plz help if u can

I would suspect the box is the problem.....I imagine the box was supplied by the cable company, correct? If so, I would ask for a replacement box as the one you have is not working properly.
