Hey guys,

In about 3 days, I will start a next stage in my life, university :p

It involves loads of new stuff etc, and a also new laptop :D
The problem is that I have no experience on the laptop subject, and I have no idea which is a good choice for me to buy.
I tought I wouldn't get a good laptop for under 1500 euros, but now I saw this: for only 833 dollar o_O
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic 64
GeForce GT 240M graphic card
15.6 HD WLED Glossy, 1366*768 with 1.3M integrated Camera
2x2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz SODIMM Memory
320GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
So I'm a bit :pt1cable: :pt1cable: :pt1cable: :pt1cable:

Budget: 0-1500$ =+- 0-1200 euros ?

Use: Gaming (prefer a very good graphic card, memory etc), just surfing internet, and office stuff
As all laptops are capable to run office stuff I need for school, lets concentrate on the gaming part :p

I would like a powerfull laptop, but one that doesn't run too hot (would like it to be capable to run for like 12 houres or more without overheating)

1. What is your budget?
0-1500$ = +-0-1200 euros?

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
anything, as long as it performs good

3. What screen resolution do you want?

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Desktop replacement, the reason I don't buy a desktop is because I will need to take it to school sometimes

5. How much battery life do you need?
Doesn't matter, will be hooked up to the net mostly

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
CoD 4 and 5, the latest games, ...

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo / Video editing, surfing the web, playing music, watching movies, Etc.)
surfing the web, downloading, playing music, watching movies, office stuff

8. How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need?
Preferably 320GB+

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post the links to them.
Any site

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
About 4 years or more

11. If you would like to mention some other things about purchasing your ideal laptop, post them.
anything that works

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
any brand that has good quality, I'm not buying the brand, I'm buying what's inside :p

13. What country do you live in?
Belgium

Well, I could give you guys some belgian sites with laptops and stuff, but I don't know any good ones, so is it possible to just recommend me some types of laptops (like Acer cxxx, or Toshiba blabla) so I can look where to buy them in my country?
Like choose on of these: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCat [...] -Notebooks and I'm pretty sure most are avaible in my country

Belgian sites (just googled):
http://www.laptopshop.be/keuzehulp [...] r=a&option[1]=5905&ref=1381&gclid=CLGs_PWLgJ0CFYw_3god_Dcuag
http://www.vandenborre.be/WEB/NL/L [...] tbbe9nSC8k
http://www1.euro.dell.com/be/nl/th [...] hs1&~ck=mn
http://www.kieskeurig.be/laptop
http://www.itware.be/producten/Notebook/notebooks
http://alatest.be/reviews/laptop-c [...] itstart=25

And ow yea, I'm planning to buy it next weekend, so please hurry :S ;)

Thanks you guys!!

Thanks for that shipping site! :p

I've found this one: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9366615&type=product&id=1218092150740

It is totally awsome (the specs)
And when I convert the dollar (1300) to euros, I get 880 euro, it's like uber cheap

Only problem is that I didn't find it in any shop in Belgium/The Netherlands -_-
So I would have to find a way to ship it to Belgium o_O

And also, will things like the power cable fit here in Europe?

So does anyone know a similar specced laptop which is maybe more avaible in Europe?

The shitty thing is that I saw some interesting ones, but I didn't see them avaible here in Belgium or The Netherlands yet...

Maybe one of these:

What's the best one of these 2?: (mainly a video card question)
http://www.laptopshop.be/product/76838/toshiba-satellite-l550-117-azerty.html
http://www.laptopshop.be/product/69361/acer-aspire-7738g-644g32mn-azerty.html

The G71 would be the best option if you could find it by you. It is a great value with solid performance. My only complaint against it is the low screen resolution, 1440x900 is going to be pixelated on a 17'' screen.

The first link to laptopshop doesn't work. But between the Toshiba and the Acer, the HD 4650 in the Toshiba is a stronger gaming card than the GT 130M. The only downside to those machines are the relatively slow CPUs.

Well, I accidently posted my thread first in the Home built sub-forum and there I came to this laptops:

Sadly the G71 is not avaible in Belgium or The Netherlands, so that sucks :D

So
http://www.laptopshop.be/product/76406/acer-aspire-7535g-754g50mn-azerty.html
or (scroll down for good specs)
http://www.laptopshop.be/product/76364/acer-aspire-8930g-664g32mn-azerty.html

the one is 100 euro cheaper, has a similar Processor, DDRII instead of 3, 500 Gig instead of 320 (good)

So the only main difference is the HD 4750 versus the 9700M GT

the reason why I'm so much talking about videa cards is because my desktop has some stupid HD 3650 single, and I can't run any game without lag o_O I don't want that to happen on my laptop :D

I'm pretty happy with it, tough better processor, video card and HD space is always welcome, but I fear that that would add a few 100's of euros to that price...

I'm hesitant to compare those two laptops only because I have never heard of the HD 4750 before and it's not listed on ATI's website. I'm not sure if it's a typo or what the deal is.

edit: upon further inspection, it's really an HD4570 which will be weaker than the 9700M GT.

All are avaible maybe, but I can't find it :p
For example this one

But given that acer aspire's are around 800-900 euro, that one would be way above my budget, no?

It doesn't has to be one from the laptopshop.be site
Please take a look here :p :
site 1
site 2
site3
site 4 'or any other screensize
