Is a hd tv better than useing a hd moniter

I HAVE A SONY VAIO NOTEBOOK WITH A BLUERAY DRIVE AND HDMI OUT PUT 1080 SONY DO NOT MAKE MONITORS, ONLY HD TVS AND I WANT TO HAVE A LARGER SCREEN FOR MY PHOTOS ECT TO VIEW AND EDIT IN HIGH COLOUR AND YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.

I inquired about this myself at Best Buy and was told that this could be done but it would require setting your notebook video for the 1080. I do not claim to be an expert on this though.

I am trying to do something similar only I am want to use a wireless converter box from my PC to the TV. I have found a few pieces of hardware that can do this but I am not confident enough with any of them enough to advise you.

To research this more you can do a Google search for "Media Gateway" and see what is available. Hope this helps a little anyway.
