Canon D40 shutter slow to react, after 2 years of extreme use

Hello,
I have just moved to Italy with my Canon D40 and and many of the fast lenses. The shutter has recently started to slow (focusing on AF points sporadic) making me wonder if it might be mirror related? Anyone else having this problem. This camera gets a lot of use!
