Line out consumer to 3.5 mini mic input

Can I connect a line out (RCA- consumer) from a stereo to the mic input (mini - 3.5) of my camcorder? With out any risk of damage? Is all I need a 40dB pad? Tape player to Vixia HV30 Camcorder
