Is copying of ppv movies legal

In general, the copying of any media is considered illegal because you do not own the rights to the media. Meaning you didn't personally finance the production of the media. Instead, you own a copy of the media to enjoy at your own leisure.

There is the "Fair Use" concept where it is technically legal for you to make a backup of your media in case of loss or damage if you bought it. However, PPV is basically "renting" the video to view it once. Therefore, you do not really own the movie. If you bought the DVD or Blu-Ray version of the movie, then you can made a copy for private viewing.
