Guys.

Remember those VCRs? The type you load VHS tapes to record TV you missed on the tube-TVs?
Things are completely different now.

What I'm looking for is something like this:
Record my HDTV from a TV video cable onto a hard-drive for future playback.
Send the HDTV signal to the TV set using a HDMI cable - 1080p.
It will be nice to copy the recorded video to a thumb drive, then transfer it to some portable media player.
I think the TV video signal is h.264/AVC, not sure.
That's about it. Nothing "high-end" Just looking for a BOX, not a "Media PC".

I tried searching threads, but I don't even know the keywords or what this is called.

Ok, thanks!!

I found the "TiVo HD DVR" which does most of what I'm looking for, but that requires a a monthly subscription.

Is there a good DVR that doesn't have any monthly service?
Just "Record channel 8 - 9pm to 10pm"

Some prices are $800+, way too high for me. Maybe I should forget about this.

When I understand this a little better, I can do my own searching.

Thanks,

I posted a similar question in the past to no avail. I was looking for a simple digital recorder. I don't know why you can get an HD camcorder for $200, yet finding a simple digital recorder outside of a TIVO box is next to impossible.
