RCA (consumer) to Mini mic input

Can I connect a line out (RCA- consumer) from a stereo to the mic input (mini - 3.5) of my camcorder? With out any risk of damage? Is all I need a 40dB pad? Vixia HV30

yes and no, yes you can and maybe it will work, but if the camera is low level input then be sure that you have a low level output
