Hi,

I need to know if is possible to connect and external USB hard drive(Simpletech) with a Hifi Microsystem with USB port (Sanyo MJR-R100).
I have beed investigating and I found the following details.

HD Power Consumption: 5V, 1A
HiFi USB Port Accept: 5V, 500mA (Same as computers)
HD Filesystem: FAT32

The 1 thing is: HD Manufacturer declare that HD doesn't need an extenal AC adapater (anyway could be connected) since with USB port power is enough. But how could be enough if USB port in PCs only deliver 500mA.
2nd: Microsystem could be detect the HD if I formatted in FAT32??

Thanks and sorry for my english :).

I just tried to find some information on the Micro system you mentioned but can't seem to find anything. A few points:

1. Does the HD work powered just of a PC USB port. If it does then it will most likely work (power up) when connected to the micro system as USB supplies a standard power supply.

2. What does the manual say the micro system supports USB wise? If it is USB Mass Storage device then you may well be in luck.

3. The micro system is almost certainly expecting a FAT32 format disk. NTFS is specific to Windows and a closed standard so most things USB settle on FAT.

Hope it helps..
