My last lappy was an Acer, and it served me well for 3 years. I'm now on a HP. Both are decent brands. The Customer Service from Acer UK was brilliant when the keyboard broke. Sent it off in the post on a Thursday afternoon, and it was back with me with on Monday morning. I'm presently on a HP, and I've had zero issues.

Acer would be a better machine ok so you lose 1GB of ram your system if it's running a 32 bit O/S can only address 3GB or 3.5 Max (with some address extensions) Acer also has a far better GPU. I've not had any issues on my 2 year old acer here. I'd go for it over the HP simply for the better GPU and you're getting a larger hard drive as well if you want the extra GB of ram it's cheap to upgrade

Definitely go with the Acer. Even if you don't play graphic intensive games, that 9600 GT is going to be worth it in the long run.
