I upgraded my Acer Laptop with a 940GML chipset from a Celeron 1.6 to a Core 2 Duo 1.83 T5600 Works great, better battery life, and it runs cooler. My socket was also a 479 mPGA. I had to do some research on the motherboard, the Bios turned out to be the limiting factor based on what processors it would recognize. I warn you that replacing a processor in a laptop is not easy and very risky. Hope that helps.

Quoting cpu-world.com - Socket 479 (mPGA479M) at the very end:
Upgrading socket 479 motherboards

Because it's easy to put electrically-incompatible CPU into the socket 479 and thus damage the CPU and/or the motherboard, it is very important that you verify processor compatibility before buying and installing it. Depending on the type of motherboard you have, your upgrade choices are:

● Mobile Celeron / Pentium III-M motherboard: your best upgrade option is a Mobile Pentium III-M 1333. You cannot upgrade to any other mobile processors.

● Celeron M 300 series or Pentium M:

○ If your motherboard supports 533 MHz FSB then the fastest upgrade option is a Pentium M 780. If the Pentium M 780 seems too expensive or difficult to find then consider upgrading to Pentium 770.

○ If your motherboard supports only 400 MHz FSB then the fastest upgrade option is a Pentium M 765. If the Pentium M 765 seems too expensive or difficult to find then consider upgrading to Pentium 755.

You cannot upgrade to Core Solo, Core Duo, Celeron M 400 / 500 series, Pentium Dual-Core Mobile or Core 2 Duo Mobile processors.

● Celeron M 400 or 500 series, Core Solo, Core Duo, Pentium Dual-Core Mobile or Core 2 Duo Mobile (all socket M processors):

○ The best upgrade option is a Core 2 Duo Mobile T7600 or T7600G. The T7600G has unlocked clock multiplier and can be overclocked, but it's very difficult to find.

○ If the T7600 / T7600G is too expensive for you then consider upgrading to slower Core 2 Duo Mobile processors.

○ If you motherboard doesn't support Core 2 Duo Mobile CPUs then your best upgrade option is a Core Duo T2700.
So I guess you had a "Celeron M 400" or "Celeron M 500" cpu?

I my case, I'm researching on an upgrade from the current “Pentium M” to some dual core cpu, which unfortunately seems to be impossible.
I'm still hoping there might be some rare variant of a dual core cpu that does work in mPGA478C sockets? (Well, probably not, but maybe ...)

BTW, “CPU-Z” identifies my cpu socket as “Socket 479 mPGA”, which isn't specifically wrong, but useless nonetheless, because this includes both “mPGA478C” and “Socket M”. And these aren't compatible at all (see quote above). So you have to have a closer look!

Ciao,

--------------------------------------------------------------
Processor
Name :Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T5600
Codname :Merom
Package :Socket 479 mPGA
Techno :65nm

Specification : Intel Core 2 CPU T5600 @1,83 Ghz
Family : 6
Ext.Family : 6
Model : 6
Ext.Model : 6
Stepping : 2
Revision : L2

Motherboard

Manufecturer : Quanta
Model : 30BD
Chipset : Intel i945PM
Southbridge : Intel 82801 GHM (ICH7 - M/U)

Bios

Brand : HP
Version : F.29
Date : 11/13/2007

Memory

Type : DDR2
Channels : Dual
Size :1024 Mb [at the moment]

It made me confused it says Max Bandwidth is PC2-5300 .(333mhz) i just hope this is not the limit

TIMING is

5-5-15-5 at the moment or i am mixing it with something else

listing 5-5-15-5 is like this

CAS# LATENCY 5.0 CLOCKS
RAS#TO CAS# DELAY 5 CLOCKS
RAS#PRECHARGE 5 CLOCKS
CYCLE TIME 15 CLOCKS
BANK CYCLE TIME 5 CLOCKS

-------------------------------------------------------------

can i add any models of core 2 duo processor to this pc which is higher than mine and for rams at what speed they must be to have supported by my pc?

If ther is an option of adding a new cpu bettter than installed one where can i buy it?

Thank you i hope someone answers
