Laptop driving 30" @ 2560x1600

Is anyone aware of a (non Apple) laptop that can drive a 30" display at its native resolution (2560x1600)? Obviously we're talking external DVI here, not a laptop with an inbuilt 30", hehe... (the term "laptable" comes to mind... )

Or. Have anyone any experience with hooking up a "normal" (PCI-Express) to a laptop using an external enclosure of some kind (like ATi "Lasso")?

If you just want to run at that res, any laptop with a decent proc and GPU can do it. If you want to game at that res you are going to need some serious horsepower ie: GeForce Go 7950 GTX. IF you want the first option get a laptop with at least an X1600 or go7600.

3) games/apps to be used

But seriously, what you need is a DVI-D connection.

You sure? I was under the impression that notebooks supporting a DVI-D dual-link (DL) was rare...? As opposed to a DVI-D single link, which is not uncommon.

1) Gotta be a 30" Apple/Dell/HP at @2560x1600 pixels. No large TV will do as the resolution is less (typically 1920x1080).
2) Not an issue. Really.
3) Only an inhouse developed application. Nothing very GPU intensive, certainly nothing like a modern game. Does use DirectX9 (SM3.0).
4) No preference as such, except the more mainstream the better.

Very nice, but wrong resolution. You drive a 30 inch at 2560x1600 pixels and I'll bring the money.

Okay my mistake. I wasn't aware that a dual link was needed. But then yes I think laptops with dual link will be tough to find.

I actually meant the screen size for the laptop. Some peopl have real issues about the size of their laptops.

I should have elaborated on the dual link, I have a higher threshold of common knowledge.

As far as the 61" 1920x1080, that is a capabilities of a 1080p TV, that was meant as a demonstration of the different things you are capable of that are out of the ordinary.

The notebook itself can go 2560x1600 no problem.

I noticed that the Wakizachi doesn't have a DVI-D connector; is the Executioner the only option? (Have to haul this to and from work every day, a 15.4" screen is more attractive...)

Disregarding cost for a while, would it be possible to buy a notebook with a 15.4" (1680x1050) screen (and a physical size similar to the Wakizachi) supporting an external 30" display (essentially a Wakizachi with a dual link DVI-D connector)?

Ive been looking like crazy for a good anwser if the Geforce go 7950 GTX can handle the big external screens, but it seems to be hard to get a good anwser.

Are you gaming, or only 2D light 3D?

Gaming would require an SLi solution IMO, but for day to day use, anything with a dual-link TMDS output (DVI or HDMI) will support that resolution.

Where are you buying that laptop from? That's the older version of it which I thought was discontinued this summer.

I have the same laptop, but have 2gb of RAM instead of your 4. What OS are you using BTW? A 32-bit OS won't recognize all 4, it will see something like 3.25gb.
I can attest to the GTX's speed, you should be fine.

GF7950 might be overkill, but it does appear to be dual-link DVI which is what you need. I'd personally look for a GF8600M or HD2600 equipped model, but you should be fine with that.

If I were you, I'd ask them first to be sure, but the posts I've seen on the M570u sofar have claimed it's dual-link DVI.

I'm trying to find out for you. It doesn't say in my manual, but I have other resources that I am trying. I know the new version of that laptop, the M570ru, is dual link HDCP supported. I'll let you know if I get the answer for the M570u.

Based on these pics, it looks like DVI-D:

The pins and holes match up better with the second image of the DVI-D.

I decided to go with the M570ru instead from rock.

Its supposed to be Dual-Dvi.
